The General Services Public Works Committee of the City of Coeur d'Alene on July 7 recommended that City Council approve amendments to the city records retention manual to update departmental records custodians and reflect recent staffing changes.
The changes are a housekeeping measure intended to keep the manual consistent with state requirements and current staff assignments. "The state code requires us to have a records retention manual," Renata McLeod said, adding that each department must have a custodian to monitor its records. McLeod identified herself as the city's lead records retention person.
Committee members described the item as straightforward and procedural. Council Member Christy Wood moved to recommend council approval; Council President English seconded. The committee voted unanimously to recommend approval and directed staff to place the amendment on the consent calendar for the full City Council.
The amendments were described in the meeting as reflecting recent staffing changes; the committee did not change retention schedules or state any new retention periods during the discussion. The update will reach the council through the consent calendar unless councilmembers pull the item for separate consideration.
