Animal control urges keeping pets indoors during fireworks; shelter phone, hours provided

Britney Schultz, an animal control officer with the Nancy J. Brewer Animal Care Center, urged residents to secure pets indoors during Fourth of July fireworks and provided shelter contact information for lost animals.
"Keep them indoors or secured in a room or kennel so that they don't escape your property," Schultz said on the July 4 First Watch radio program. She recommended playing music to drown out noise, offering calming treats and keeping supervising adults sober and attentive when animals are near fireworks.
Schultz said that if a pet goes missing, residents should call Cochise County dispatch at (520) 803-3555 to report a loss, or call the shelter at (520) 458-4151 to check if the animal has been brought in. She said the Nancy J. Brewer Animal Care Center is located at 6799 East Highway 90 and that the shelter would be open the next day from noon to 5 p.m.
The animal-control representative asked residents not to bring pets to crowded public events and reiterated that the shelter maintains a social presence on Facebook with additional information.
For lost-pet reports, Schultz directed callers to the dispatch and shelter phone numbers provided on the broadcast.
