Commissioners pursue SolSmart help as they refine a draft renewable energy ordinance

"The answer I received was, yes. We're happy to help. And, oh, by the way, it is free," Commissioner Marsha Haydenfeld said, noting SolSmart’s support is funded by federal grants. She added she was awaiting a phone call from a contact named Sarah to clarify the scope and whether the town or mayor must sign any participation agreement.
Commissioners said the SolSmart review could help refine portions of the town’s draft renewable energy ordinance and avoid conflicts with state codes. "Did you know that some of the states, codes override the towns with things?" Commissioner Haydenfeld said, describing uncertainties about where state law might limit local rules. Commissioners discussed meeting with SolSmart during business hours before a July 17 work session so the commission can use that session to continue drafting the ordinance.
Commissioners also emphasized the need to coordinate with the building department for permitting and inspection roles if the ordinance advances to formal adoption. Chair Amanda Podmore encouraged two commissioners to meet with SolSmart in business hours and report back to the commission at the next work session.
