Commissioners approve FY2025–26 pay tables; SB116 revises elected-official base salaries

The Churchill County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt the pay tables for fiscal year 2025–26, which the county’s HR and finance staff presented as including a net 2% general increase for most county employees and wage adjustments for law-enforcement classifications.

“The pay tables for fiscal year 25–26 reflect a general adjustment of 3.625 with a reduction of the employees per increase match of 1.625, effectively netting a 2% increase over the previous year for all general employees,” presenter Chris Bros said. For law enforcement the package included larger nominal adjustments that likewise net to a 2% increase for those classifications, staff said.

The packet also summarized recent state law changes. As presented by staff, Senate Bill 116 (passed in the 80th Nevada Legislature) revises Nevada Revised Statutes so that base salaries for elected county officers adjust beginning July 1 to reflect either compounded CPI increases for the Western Region or a 3% increase above the highest-paid employees supervised by the elected official, whichever is higher. The presentation listed the revised base salaries for the newly effective fiscal year: county commissioners $36,000; clerk-treasurer $107,818; recorder $107,818; assessor $107,818; district attorney $177,808.22; sheriff $135,738. The presenter said tenure-based increases on top of those bases will still apply.

Denise Felton, identified in the record as the county assessor, noted that SB116 contains multiple parts and that there is a separate board authority to provide a 2% annual increase to elected officials: “SB116 was passed, and effective for fiscal year 25, 26, but there are 3 parts to that… section 4 says that the Board of County Commissioners annually can provide a 2% increase for the elected officials.”

Commissioners voted to approve the pay tables as submitted. The motion carried.
