Commissioner Trost led discussion of the proposal and placed Director Fitzgerald on the phone to outline the county’s needs. Director Fitzgerald said Curry County has experienced “a lot of revolving doors around finance” since the departure of the prior finance lead and that the county previously used Lane Council of Governments after a cyber incident. Fitzgerald described the Rogue Valley COG offer as a more sustainable, day‑to‑day oversight model and said the county expects to receive monthly balance sheets rather than only quarterly reports. “I’d like to have monthly balance sheets at the least,” Fitzgerald said.
Under the agreement discussed in the meeting, Rogue Valley COG would act as oversight accountants while the county continues to handle accounts payable and receivable internally. Commissioners said the COG’s board has voted to accept Curry County as a new member if the county moves forward with the contract.
Commissioners discussed that the draft contract does not include a formal renewal clause; Director Fitzgerald said he preferred to proceed now and consider renewal terms later after the county and the COG see how the arrangement works in practice.

The board approved the agreement without additional amendments at the July 2 meeting; staff said they will proceed to finalize implementation details with the Rogue Valley COG and report back to the commissioners.
