The Policy & Human Resources Committee approved revisions to Policy 345.6 Rule 4 to clarify how credits earned in the district's Dual Language Immersion (DLI), newcomer and English-learner (EL) programs will appear on student transcripts and how they affect grade-point average.
Trisha Moritec (policy lead) told the committee she added language requested in an earlier meeting to note that credits earned “will appear on the transcript towards graduation requirements with a note of credits earned for elective without grade towards GPA.” She also proposed explicitly naming “English learner (EL)” students in the policy’s purpose so EL students who are not DLI or newcomer students can access placement examinations.
Committee members discussed technical questions about placement, how credits are recorded and whether the district's curriculum chair should be consulted before final board consideration. Moritec said she will consult the department chair and external audit partners and return revisions as needed for the policy’s next appearance before the board.
The committee approved the amended policy language and forwarded the policy for the board's second reading.
