The Grants Pass City Council on July 2 unanimously approved an ordinance vacating the common property line between Tax Lot 607 (map 36-06-24-CC), allowing Southern Oregon Sanitation to consolidate two lots on the south side of Redwood Avenue into a single parcel.
Council members opened a quasi-judicial public hearing, heard a staff report describing an existing structure bisected by the property line and the annexation history (building approved by Josephine County before annexation), and received no public comment. Planning staff said the request meets the development-code criteria for a property-line vacation and noted no public comments had been received. Indra moved to approve the vacation and Seth seconded; the roll-call vote was unanimous.
The staff report said the building on the subject lots was constructed in the early 1980s, before the area came under city jurisdiction, which limits the city's ability to explain why the lot line originally bisected the structure. The ordinance vacates the common property line and was adopted on second reading at the same meeting.
The council’s action will allow the property owner to consolidate parcels to reflect the existing building footprint; the council did not place additional conditions on the approval. Any appeals would follow the standard land-use appellate process tied to the development code criteria noted in the staff report.
