Mayor Ron Jensen and City Manager Bill Hill used the 2025 State of the City program to highlight public safety rankings, cultural and recreational amenities, libraries and a small city-led affordable housing project.
"We're number 1 in the DFW area for, the safest city," Jensen said on the program, praising police and community-based policing strategies. Hill added, "We're third third third in the state and I think it was seventeenth in the country." Those rankings were presented by the officials during the broadcast; the program did not provide the specific studies or agencies behind the rankings.
Officials also described recreational and cultural draws that they said bring visitors and residents to Grand Prairie, including Epic Waters water park, Texas Trust CU Theatre, Major League Cricket events at Lone Star Park and family destinations such as Playground Adventures and Chicken N Pickle.
On housing, Bill Hill said the city is initiating a small affordable-housing subdivision: "We have a 10 home subdivision that is gonna be built for affordable housing. That is something that we as a city were the ones that initiated that getting done." Officials did not provide a location, timeline, funding breakdown or target household criteria for the Alice Court project on the broadcast.
The program highlighted county- and city-level efforts without presenting supporting reports or detailed metrics; officials described programmatic achievements anecdotally during the conversation.
