Mayor Ron Jensen and City Manager Bill Hill described a large southern development called Goodland as a major growth area for Grand Prairie during the 2025 State of the City program.
“We finally had a developer with deep pockets, Provident, come out there and buy 5,000 acres. 5,000 acres. It's going to be a whole new city within a city,” Mayor Ron Jensen said on the program. He added that the area could eventually include about 30,000 residents.
Bill Hill said the city has completed a developer's agreement with Provident and has annexed part of the area. Hill also referenced a separate Lakesong project on the north side of U.S. 287 being developed by Huffines, which he said totals about 1,700 acres.
Officials said homes are already under construction and that the city is planning infrastructure to serve the area; Jensen specifically mentioned plans for a new Fire Station 11 near Goodland. Hill said the city intends to ensure new development meets the quality expected by residents.
Speakers did not provide an overall timetable for buildout, a detailed funding plan for city infrastructure, or firm population projections beyond the approximate figure mentioned on the program.
