Bay County adopts local provider participation fund assessment to support hospital Medicaid reimbursement

Bay County commissioners on July 1 adopted a resolution establishing a local provider participation fund assessment on hospitals, a mechanism county staff described as an established process to generate funds that can be matched by the state and federal governments to increase Medicaid reimbursement to local hospitals.
County Attorney Liebrecht explained that the assessment funds are combined with state matching dollars to increase reimbursement for Medicaid expenses, which county staff and local hospital representatives said supports trauma services, cardiothoracic surgery, and expanded cancer care at local facilities.
Robin Godwin, president of Ascension Sacred Heart Bay in Panama City, addressed the board during the public hearing in support of the resolution, saying the measure is critical to sustaining the hospital’s trauma program, cardiothoracic surgery program, and cancer care expansion.
A motion to adopt the resolution passed by roll call. The board recorded a unanimous vote. County finance and attorney staff will coordinate next steps with hospital stakeholders and state agencies to implement the assessment.
