A county representative (standing in for the absent Tommy Burns) said the loan would fund the next steps in a required investigation into lead and copper in the county—s water system. Staff indicated many service lines are currently classified as "unknown" and the loan would allow crews to excavate lines to determine whether they are lead; lines confirmed as lead would be replaced. The presenter said the majority of the identified issues are in the town of Erwin, where the water system is older.
Commissioners had no substantive objection to moving forward; staff were asked to add the resolution accepting the loan to the consent agenda for formal approval next week.
