Tigard council appoints Asher Hellick as youth city councilor effective July 1

Tigard Mayor Heidi Loub and the Tigard City Council unanimously appointed Asher Hellick as the city's youth city councilor for the term July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.
The appointment came after a brief staff report from Nicole Hendrix, assistant to the city manager, who described the youth city council program established by the council in 2019. Hendrix said the program allows appointment of one Tigard resident entering their junior or senior year of high school to advise council on community issues from a youth perspective.
Hendrix told the council that Hellick, a lifelong Tigard resident who attends Tigard High School, applied and interviewed with Mayor Loub and Council President Wolf and that the mayor and council president recommended his appointment. Council members who spoke praised Hellick's written materials and interview. A motion to appoint was moved and seconded, and the council voted unanimously in favor. Councilor Robbins confirmed she had been present for the discussion and voted yes.
The appointment is effective July 1, 2025. Hendrix said Hellick is willing to sit at the dais for his first council meeting.
The vote was described during the meeting as unanimous of the council members present; no public testimony was taken on the item at the meeting.
Hellick's appointment concludes the agenda item and the meeting proceeded to proclamations and other business.
