Community Resources director reports Clark Building opening, July events and pool‑access study

Community Resources staff updated the Parks, Recreation and Community Resources Advisory Commission on several administrative and program items on July 1, including the Clark Building, Parks & Recreation Month activities and council directions for future commission work.
Clark Building: Lisa (Community Resources Director) said construction is “set to be completed any day now” and rental applications were opened on the city website the same day. Staff emailed an interest list of roughly 120 organizations and had received eight inquiries on the first day the application went live. Staff said they plan an opening celebration toward the end of the month, pending completion of final inspections and delivery of a commemorative plaque.
Parks & Recreation Month and upcoming events: Staff noted July is National Parks & Recreation Month (theme: Build Together, Play Together) and highlighted partnerships and city events: the three national junior volleyball tournaments in July, Shakespeare by the Sea, and a free community movie matinee on July 13 in partnership with LA Galaxy (showing Kicking & Screaming) with soccer activations and on‑site programming; pre‑registration requested but not required.
Council referrals: City Council deferred two items to the commission for review: (1) explore options to provide Hermosa Beach residents with easier access to a pool through joint‑use agreements (staff plans to reach out to Redondo Union High School and other agencies after the summer season), and (2) review the Hermosa Beach Little League’s proposal for Clark Field improvements (staff will schedule Little League to present to the commission in August). The council also requested a future agenda item for a complete review of lawn bowling maintenance and operations; staff said that item will come to the parks commission before returning to council.
Other operational notes: Summer camps at Valley Park are sold out each week with waitlists of 40–80 people; staff reported interest in possibly adding a South Park camp next summer. The department expects to announce final talent for the fall concert series soon and continues to accept applications for the filming coordinator position through July 6.
