The Le Mars City Council approved an agreement with EOC Environmental Group to prepare bidding and contract documents for demolition of Centennial Hall (1140 Third Avenue Southeast) for a cost of $13,500.
City staff reported EOC previously performed an asbestos inspection and prepared documents for asbestos removal. Asbestos abatement has been awarded to a separate contractor; demolition of the building will proceed after asbestos removal. The property lies within the Highway 75 Bypass Urban Renewal area and staff said demolition costs would be eligible for TIF reimbursement after the city amends its urban revitalization plan to include the project.
Council approved the EOC agreement by voice vote. Staff said asbestos work is expected to begin in August and that the city will amend the urban revitalization plan to add this demolition as a project so costs can be reimbursed under the TIF program.
