A resident told the Lamar City Council on July 1 that Sixteenth Street Southeast is in poor condition and asked the city to inspect and repair the pavement and drainage.
The speaker said water ponds and surges up through cracks by her driveway and that previous patching has not fixed the problem. “Sixteenth Street is literally disaster…Water comes down that Sixteenth Street and it goes down in a crack up here and it comes down and shoots up out of by my driveway there, it'll shoot up out of out of the street this high at times,” the resident said.
A councilmember confirmed that taxpayer funds would be used for public street repairs when required and encouraged the resident to report specific locations so the street department could inspect them.
Why it matters: The complaint described potential roadway deterioration and stormwater drainage problems that could pose safety risks and require public spending.
Ending: City staff agreed to inspect Sixteenth Street and pursue repairs as appropriate; no specific timeline or funding amount was announced at the meeting.
