Council hears July 4 and park updates; bike-park proposals under evaluation

Council members and staff provided nonlegislative updates and event planning details during the June 26 meeting.
July 4 event Shanna said the city will hold its July 4 activities beginning July 1 and continuing through July 4 with a schedule that includes an awards dinner, a parade, a DJ dance and fireworks. She reported about $8,000 in sponsor donations and a $1,000 grant from the tourism board. Award honorees announced for the July 4 events included grand marshals Nathan and Melba Wheeler; a posthumous mayor's award for Norman Nelson; Boyd White service award to Andrew Osler; citizen of the year Leonard Barton; and business of the year Peachy Clean. Council members will participate in the parade and hand out candy and promotional items.
Mountain View Bike Park Council member Walker reported the city received three proposals for construction of the Mountain View Bike Park. City staff (chief, planning and others) are reviewing proposals; no decision was announced.
Other community notes Council member Tueller and others reported business ribbon-cuttings and ongoing landscaping improvements at city properties.
