Onslow County Animal Services expands TNVR effort with community partners and grants

Marie Gibson, representing Onslow County Animal Services, outlined the shelter's approach to managing community and feral-cat populations through trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR).
"We got a grant back in February, where Best Friends Animal Society reached out and wanted to help us out with our cat population. They gave the grant to Paws for Purpose," Gibson said, describing partner-led trapping and sterilization work. She said Paws for Purpose conducts TNVR and that some cats and kittens are brought to the county shelter for evaluation and adoption when appropriate.
Gibson said kitten season runs roughly March through October and is a major driver of intake. She described partner feral clinics such as Ideal Pet Care that provide periodic feral-clinic surgery days and said resources and a cat-resources page are available on the Animal Services website.
County staff urged residents to consult the online cat-resources page or contact Animal Services to learn about TNVR, adoption options and volunteer or partner clinics for low-cost spay/neuter.
