Onslow County Park and Recreation marks 40 years with park events and July 4 Freedom Fest

Laquisha Cadwalader of Onslow County Park and Recreation said the county is celebrating the 40th year of Park and Recreation Month by showcasing all five county parks and highlighting maintenance and safety work.
"We're gonna showcase all five of our parks this month in July, just showcasing all the hard work that our maintenance staff does to upkeep them, make them pretty and clean and safe for everyone," Cadwalader said. Planned activities include chalk-the-walk, paint-in-the-park, picnic-in-the-park and kickball events.
Luis Renville, athletic division manager, said the department is also running its all-star tournament; winners will represent Onslow County at a Crystal Coast tournament on July 17. Renville described ongoing athletic programming across county parks.
Cadwalader described Freedom Fest as taking place Friday, July 4, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., with free amusements, face painting, food vendors, live music and exhibitors. She named Soul Psychedelic Orchestra among the entertainment listed for the event.
