Onslow County Sheriff unveils app for jail information, reports and alerts

Christopher Thomas, sheriff of Onslow County, described a new Onslow County Sheriff’s Office mobile app that centralizes multiple public services and information.
"You can download it and you can get a lot of information right at your fingertips," Thomas said. "If you want to know if someone you know is in jail, you can go to the jail information app and you can look at every inmate in our facility. You can see their name, their photo, their charges, and their bond amount."
Thomas said the app also includes policy documents (for example, the office’s use-of-force policy), missing-persons information, options to request residence checks while traveling, alerts for road closures or accidents, concealed-carry permitting and public-information request forms. He said the office is adding additional material such as cold-case information.
Thomas framed the app as a transparency and accessibility tool, and said the office developed the platform so people living across the county can access information without traveling to the sheriff’s office in Jacksonville.
