The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved a year-end amendment to the FY 2024-25 budget, voting 4-1, to reconcile accounts and bring the county’s books into alignment with state statutes.
County staff said the amendment reconciles several funds and adds line items required to match actual year-end balances. Staff cited a newly established jail fund to hold monies in custody for inmates (revenue and expenditure adjustments totaling $130,000), an increase of $95,000 to a Department of Social Services client fund (to reflect a larger year-end balance), and modest increases to general government and court line items (roughly $20,000 and $5,000, respectively) to comply with statutory requirements.
Commissioners moved, seconded and then approved the amendment. A vote count of 4 to 1 was recorded; meeting materials did not contain a roll-call listing of which commissioners voted for or against the amendment. One commissioner stated during the meeting that they would not support the amendment.
County staff said the amendment follows the usual year-end procedure used in prior years to reconcile estimated and actual balances and to ensure compliance with North Carolina statutes governing budgetary reporting.
The board also discussed follow-up budget questions and requested that staff provide further backup documentation at future meetings to explain line-item changes in greater detail.
