The Greene County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday adopted a resolution opposing North Carolina Senate Bill 205, saying the measure would limit local government authority and transfer some decision-making to state officials.
The resolution, read into the record by a staff member, said SB 205 “proposes to limit local government authority to enact certain regulations, transfer decision making power from local governments to state level authorities, or interfere with local electoral processes of governance,” and that passage would be “a concerning precedent” for local autonomy. The resolution directs that a copy be sent to members of the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and the North Carolina League of Municipalities.
Commissioners moved and seconded adoption of the resolution; the motion carried. The transcript packet lists the resolution as adopted in June 2025. The board did not record a roll-call vote in the meeting minutes contained in the packet.
The commissioners did not take other formal action on state-level legislation at the meeting, but the resolution represents the county’s official opposition to SB 205 and will be transmitted to the bodies named in the resolution.
