Student-run Blue Moon Music club presents tutor program, reports $16,000 in donations

Harsh Grover, a senior at Montgomery High School, told the Montgomery Township School District Board of Education that Blue Moon Music is a student-run tutoring group that provides low-cost music lessons and donates its proceeds to school music programs that lack funding.
“Blue Moon is an MHS student led club and nonprofit organization that offers quality low cost music lessons in and around Montgomery,” Grover said. “All our proceeds are donated to bolster music education programs, that cannot properly financially support themselves.”
The club said it currently has 18 tutors and tutors 25 students. Club leaders told the board the organization has donated more than $16,000 since its founding and donated over $7,000 this past year despite COVID-19 disruptions. The group described donations this year to the Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth and to Bound Brook High School, where volunteers repaired or replaced more than 25 instruments.
Adam Warshawski, the district’s supervisor of visual and performing arts, introduced Grover and described the club as entirely student driven. Grover said members plan to launch a website and a matching service to pair students with tutors and cited the pandemic-driven expansion to remote lessons over Zoom as a way to reach students beyond Montgomery.
Board members who spoke thanked the club for mentoring younger students and for the community donations. Grover said most students who seek lessons already have instruments; when needed the club can refer families to the district’s instrument loan system used by band and orchestra programs.
Blue Moon leaders said they hope to recruit more tutors at an upcoming freshman orientation and to expand offerings and student enrollment through the new website and matching tool.
Montgomery Township School District provided the opportunity for the presentation during the public portion of the meeting. No formal action was taken on the presentation itself.
