Traffic department updates council on signal network, pavement program and street‑lighting plans

Bridal described the traffic operations center’s monitoring and recent camera additions, materials and equipment acquisitions (a volumetric concrete mixer and an asphalt laydown machine) and an expanded crew network that supports maintenance and striping. He said the city maintains about 1,440 lane miles, more than 60,000 traffic signs and 220 signalized intersections and that continuing federal retroreflectivity requirements and updated traffic standards add work and cost.
The Road to the Future program has delivered 164 road segments and about 86 centerline miles to date; in the first two five‑year phases the city committed roughly $37 million, with additional phases planned to raise annual investment and complete a larger program. Bridal asked for additional concrete and pothole crews and sign crews to maintain the city’s network and referenced planned street‑lighting work along Irving Boulevard from Pioneer to SH‑183 as a near‑term project.
Ending: Council asked for a demonstration visit to the traffic operations center and noted lighting and pedestrian‑safety priorities for neighborhoods; staff will return with refined staffing requests and schedules for striping and lighting projects.
