Sierra Vista posts no‑parking zone on Sears Center Drive near soccer fields for safety

Scott Borgstaff of the Sierra Vista Police Department told KWCD’s First Watch that the north side of Sears Center Drive, adjacent to the Sears Center Park soccer fields, is now posted as a no‑parking zone to protect emergency access and the safety of children.
Borgstaff said the curb on the north side has been painted red and signage installed; the city completed a safety study and determined parking on that side of the road can block fire apparatus and create hazards when children dart between parked cars and traffic. “Safety is always gonna outweigh the convenience,” he said.
The department will begin an educational period in which officers place flyers on vehicles parked in the prohibited area and explain the change; enforcement, including potential towing or a fine of up to $50 under the city statute cited on the flyer, may follow if compliance does not improve. Borgstaff noted nearby parking areas — a small lot east of the fields and a larger lot on North Avenue — are available about 300 meters from the fields.
Maps and the no‑parking extent are posted on the City of Sierra Vista and Sierra Vista Police Department Facebook pages, Borgstaff said, and he urged parents and caregivers to drop off passengers if they cannot walk the short distance from the lots to the fields.
