Planning staff lays out PG 2045 schedule; open houses set for Sept. 10 and 13

Planning staff on June 26 reviewed upcoming steps in the PG 2045 comprehensive plan process and the Planning Commission’s calendar. Commissioners adopted a revised meeting schedule that adds an August work session focused on the comprehensive plan.

Staff said commissioners will receive an updated copy of the entire draft comprehensive plan at a July 21 work session and will have an August work session for an executive-summary briefing and further discussion. Public open houses are scheduled for Sept. 10 at the Prince George County Library and Sept. 13 at the Disputanic Community Center; the dates and locations are posted on the Planning Department website.

Staff also reported on related special projects: drafting an ordinance amendment to allow backyard chickens in residential zoning districts (expected for initial review in the fall), nearly finished Planning Commission bylaws to present in July, and closure of the solar facilities project pending Board action. The Board of Supervisors’ June 10 meeting recap provided to commissioners noted recent Board actions, including its siting-policy amendment tied to the solar ordinance.

The commission approved the revised meeting schedule by roll call vote. Staff said additional public-engagement materials and dates are posted online and encouraged public attendance at the open houses when the draft is available for preview and staff discussion.
