Coleman said the stock show—an annual children’s event held traditionally the third weekend in January—raises about "over 500,000, half a million dollars for these kids, for scholarship funds," and that moving the date would reduce buyer attendance because neighboring county shows occur the weeks immediately before and after. He said the association had signed and paid a deposit and asked the county to work toward a solution so both events can proceed.
Mangle said the Dimmit County 4‑H’s largest fundraiser, a Friday barbecue plate sale that serves the community ("we sold over 1,500 plates this past year"), is scheduled the Friday of the stock show and that the 4‑H organization also could work with the other booking party to co‑exist in the facility that weekend.
Court members acknowledged the public comments and indicated staff and commissioners would follow up. The remarks were recorded during the public‑comment portion of the agenda; no formal agenda item or motion regarding the booking appeared for action at this session.
