Council calls for coordinated response to SCAQMD fleet rule, unanimously

Councilmember Ridley-Thomas on Feb. 2 successfully called for citywide coordination of pending policy initiatives that relate to a proposed fleet rule from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD).
Ridley-Thomas told colleagues multiple, disparate motions and initiatives on vehicle-fleet emissions were active and argued the council should develop a coherent, comprehensive policy. He said the objective is to produce a potent and progressive approach that could serve as a model beyond the city.
The council voted 13-0 to approve the coordination motion. Councilmembers who spoke in favor said the timing was appropriate to bring motions together and address air-quality and fleet-emissions policy in a unified way.
