Board approves amendment to state contract to extend Lake County noxious-weed funding

The Lake County Board of Supervisors on June 25 unanimously approved an amendment to an agreement with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) to extend the county’s noxious-weed reimbursement agreement and add roughly $55,190 in funding.
The board accepted the item as an "extra" because county staff said the CDFA told the county on short notice that, unless a signed agreement extending the county’s current noxious-weed contract arrived by Monday, June 30, the contract would terminate and the county would forfeit roughly $55,000.
Catherine Vanderwal, Lake County Agricultural Commissioner, told the board: “If they do not receive a signed approved agreement, which extends our current noxious weed agreement by Monday, June 30, then the agreement will be terminated and we will forfeit approximately $55,000.”
The amendment extends Agreement 23-0287-000SA’s expiration date from June 30, 2025, to Dec. 31, 2027, and increases the contract by $55,190.30 for a new total of $97,611.30 for reimbursement of the county’s noxious-weed program.
After the item was accepted onto the agenda, the board moved and seconded the resolution and voted in favor. The clerk recorded the outcome as an approved resolution.
The board did not direct further action beyond approving the amendment; staff said the signed amendment must be returned to the CDFA to avoid losing the funds.
Votes at the meeting recorded the action as passing without recorded opposition.
Ending: The amended contract will allow the county’s noxious-weed program to continue receiving state reimbursements through the end of 2027, county staff said. The county must return a signed amendment to CDFA before the stated deadline to preserve the funds.
