The New Rochelle Municipal Civil Service Commission approved routine minutes, agreed to expand a residency posting to New York State because of too few local applicants, extended two promotional eligible lists through Sept. 18, 2026, and confirmed upcoming exam dates at a meeting Wednesday afternoon.
The actions came at a regular meeting held at 3:39 p.m. June 25 in the Council Conference Room. Bishop Fetson Lee, chairman of the Municipal Civil Service Commission, and Commissioners Margaret Chadwick and Guadalupe Avilla attended; a commission staff member presented the items and handled scheduling details.
Commission staff reported a request—previously circulated on June 19—to change the residency posting for the Public Properties and Parking Manager recruitment from local postings to a statewide posting. The staff member said the position had been posted to “North Shell” and Westchester (county) but had produced only “1 or 2” applicants, and recommended posting to New York State to widen the candidate pool. The transcript records that the commission approved that change via e-mail prior to the meeting.
The commission approved extensions to two promotional eligible lists. Staff said the assistant superintendent of streets promotional list (number 2636) and the working supervisor promotional list (number 2630) should be extended until Sept. 18, 2026. Commissioners approved the extensions by voice; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally.
Staff also reviewed the summer exam schedule. An examination for fire lieutenant, fire captain and electrician was scheduled for Saturday, June 28 at Albert Leonard Middle School. The staff member estimated about 85 candidates on the promotion rosters and roughly six candidates for the electrician exam, saying, “A lot. It's gonna be like, a 100. 85 with the promotions and maybe about 6 for the electrician.” The commission was told there are no scheduled exams in July or August and that the next set of exams is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2025, at 3:30 p.m.; staff asked commissioners to check their calendars for that date.
No provisional or probationary appointments were presented at the June meeting; staff said those items would be brought to the commission in September. With those routine items completed, the commission adjourned and members exchanged summer well-wishes.
