Planning Commission selects winners for Jurupa Valley home-recognition program; awards to be presented to council

The Jurupa Valley Planning Commission selected district winners and runner-ups for the city’s HOME Recognition Program and will invite the winners to be recognized at the Jurupa Valley City Council meeting on July 17.
Curtis Miller, the city’s housing manager, presented the program as a Housing Element initiative first approved in 2021. Miller said the city received numerous nominations from across the five council districts and that staff screened nominees to ensure they met program criteria, including no open code violations and no unpermitted structures.
Miller described the recognition package: a decorative garden banner, a floral arrangement and a certificate to be presented at a future City Council meeting. Staff also said nominees who are selected can decline recognition; the commission selected a runner-up in each district as a backup.
After deliberation, the commission chose the following winners and runner-ups by district:
- District 1: Winner — 5839 Steve Street; Runner‑up — 4654 Dapple Lane - District 2: Winner — 5522 Starling Drive; Runner‑up — 11875 Sanderling Way - District 3: Winner — 7778 Longs Peak Drive; Runner‑up — 4446 Jericho Street - District 4: Winner — 2545 Sandra Drive; Runner‑up — 6125 Tarragona Drive - District 5: Winner — 7135 Peralta Place; Runner‑up — 7195 Alviso Avenue
Commissioners said they visited many nominated properties and appreciated the variety of styles and landscaping approaches, including drought-tolerant designs. Staff said this was the first year of the program and that it will be run annually, with efforts to expand outreach and advertising for future nomination cycles.
The commission approved the selections during the meeting; staff will contact the winners and invite them to the July 17 City Council meeting for formal recognition.
