Humboldt Bay Trail connection between Arcata and Eureka to open with weekend celebration

Supervisor Samantha Arroyo told the Board of Supervisors on June 24 that the Humboldt Bay Trail connection between Arcata and Eureka will open to the public on Saturday with a full-day celebration of organized rides, a ribbon-cutting at the Adorni Center and a bus shuttle to support events.
Arroyo, who has been a long-time backer of the trail project, said the grand-opening celebration's centerpiece will be at the Adorni Center in Eureka from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a morning series of trail cleanups, a fun run, group skate and bike rides and other organized activities. A free bus shuttle will run between the Adorni Center and South Chi Street in Arcata to help participants travel one-way along the newly opened corridor.
Arroyo said the trail will be open to all non-motorized modes, and organizers arranged a schedule and support for families, including people who may want to bike one way and ride the shuttle back. She directed listeners to transportationpriorities.org/trailparty for the full schedule and logistics.
Board members praised the project's years-long development and thanked the many volunteers, agencies and staff who helped bring the connection to fruition. Arroyo also highlighted morning trail cleanups and invited community groups to participate in the celebration.
