The Hayward City Council on June 24 approved an employment agreement appointing Library Director Jayanti Adleman as interim city manager effective July 1 and authorized the mayor to execute the agreement.
Acting City Attorney Michael Vigilia presented the employment terms and said staff recommended parity with the prior interim city manager’s compensation. Vigilia stated the compensation would be the same rate previously provided to the prior interim city manager, at $381,000 annually, and that Adleman would have the right to return to her former position as library director at the end of the interim assignment.
Council recognition and move to approve: Multiple councilmembers thanked Acting City Manager Michael Lawson and Acting City Attorney Vigilia for managing the recent transition and welcomed Adleman, noting her work leading the city’s library and related programs. Mayor Salinas moved the resolution to approve the agreement; Mayor Pro Tem Roach seconded. The council voted 6–0 to approve the employment agreement and authorization for the mayor to sign the contract.
Implementation notes: The acting city attorney said the agreement will take effect July 1; Human Resources and the city attorney’s office will process the appointment and administrative changes. Council members emphasized continuity and credited staff for keeping operations stable during the transition.
