The Alabama State Board of Education unanimously adopted a resolution June 13 recognizing Russell County High School as the 2023–24 American College Application Campaign (ACAC) School of Excellence.
Doctor Mackey (presenting the resolution) read portions of the board’s resolution, describing the ACAC as a campaign meant to ensure graduating seniors have both information about postsecondary opportunities and the opportunity to apply. The resolution praised the school and district for efforts to raise college and career readiness among students.
Tanya Keene, identified in the meeting as principal of Russell County High School, thanked the board and the district. ‘‘I’m the principal, Tanya Keene, at Russell County High School, and I just wanna thank you for this,’’ she said. Keene also thanked the superintendent and the school’s team for support advancing graduation and college‑and‑career readiness.
The board moved and seconded the resolution and recorded a unanimous vote. Board members and staff also commended several Russell County students who participated in leadership programs in Montgomery earlier in the week.
The recognition is ceremonial and does not carry a separate funding action; the department and the district will continue activities that support college application access.
