Hardin County EMS wins American Heart Association Mission Lifeline Silver recognition

Hardin County EMS received the American Heart Association Mission Lifeline EMS Silver Award, county officials announced at the fiscal court meeting on June 24.
The award recognizes emergency medical services that meet performance measures for prehospital care for stroke, heart attack and cardiac arrest, Mark Peterson said. “The Mission Lifeline EMS … focuses on the quality of care and outcomes for prehospital stroke, heart attack, and cardiac arrest patients by connecting all care components into a seamlessly integrated care system,” Peterson said.
Peterson described the criteria the county met: prearrival notifications for suspected stroke, documentation of last known well times for stroke patients, blood glucose evaluation for stroke-like symptoms, a documented stroke screen, 12‑lead electrocardiograms performed within 10 minutes for chest‑pain calls, and aspirin administration for STEMI and suspected heart attack. To receive recognition the agency must meet at least 75% of the American Heart Association’s EMS measures, Peterson said.
County staff credited Eric Cook, deputy director, for completing the data entry that supported the application. Peterson said Hardin County last held this recognition in February 2019 and that, after submitting next year’s data, the agency will be eligible to apply for the gold-level award.
The judge executive and several magistrates acknowledged the award in the meeting and posed for a photo with the plaque after the presentation.
County officials said the recognition reflects daily clinical work and quality-improvement efforts rather than a single program change.
Ending: The county said it will publish information about the award and display the Mission Lifeline emblem on ambulances and in public materials to highlight the county’s prehospital care performance.
