Washington County renews property/liability insurance, approves $30,000 budget move to raise cyber coverage

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved the county’s 2025-26 property and casualty insurance renewals and a budget adjustment to remove a ransomware sublimit.
Tracy McCammon, risk management coordinator, and Patrick Buck of CBIZ Insurance Services presented the renewal. Buck said renewal quotes resulted in a 14.7% increase in premiums compared with last year’s actual paid amounts; the largest increases were for cyber liability and newly added drone liability coverage. "We recently added seven new drones to the policy that were not budgeted earlier in the year," Buck said.
Staff recommended renewing property and liability policies with Travelers Insurance Company and airport liability with AIG, and approving a budget adjustment to fund the additional cyber liability premium. McCammon and Buck said Travelers agreed to remove the ransomware sublimit, restoring ransomware coverage to the policy limit (one million dollars), but that removal would increase premiums by about $30,000. The board approved the renewal and the budget adjustment; staff said the $30,000 would be funded by reducing FY26 general operations allocations for the Time to Care Act (deferred to FY27).
The motion to renew insurance and adjust the budget passed on the record with commissioners saying "aye."
