North Bend awarded $150,000 Travel Oregon grant for Visitor Center "hub rest area"

City staff announced that the City of North Bend was awarded a $150,000 grant from Travel Oregon to fund a hub rest area at the Visitor Information Center.
The project — described by staff as the hub rest area, a roughly third phase of Visitor Center improvements — will include ADA public restrooms, a hydration station for people and pets, a bike rack and repair station, interactive digital kiosks, upgraded lighting and landscaping, and a fully accessible walkway from the lower level to the visitor center and historical features. Staff said the total cost for this phase is $257,000 and that the city will offset the remainder with transient lodging tax revenue budgeted in the coming year.
Staff also said they consulted with a locally based organization for the visually impaired during the grant application and site walk to ensure accessibility. Council acknowledged the announcement; no formal council action on funding was required at the meeting.
