Atkinson said the city is building an evidence record that could support more forceful action, including options that would permit the city to take over stabilization or repairs if legal standards are met. A commissioner recommended the city consider pursuing a “demolition by neglect” ordinance to give the city an additional enforcement tool for properties that are allowed to deteriorate.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; the topic will continue to be monitored by staff as they pursue discussions with the owner and legal review with the City Attorney’s Office.
