Millbrae council appoints and reappoints members to multiple advisory bodies; youth advisory slate approved with mayor recusal

The Millbrae City Council on June 24 approved a series of appointments and reappointments to the city’s advisory commissions and committees.
City Clerk Elaine Tramm presented the subcommittee recommendations from Mayor Fung and Councilmember Riley. The appointments included reappointment of Sami Yim and the new appointment of Umid Kapanugu to the Sister Cities Commission; reappointments to the Community Enhancement Advisory Committee; reappointment to the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee; multiple appointments and a full‑member promotion to the Economic Development Advisory Committee; and reappointments to the Senior Advisory Committee. The council approved those appointments by a 5-0 vote.
The council then considered the Youth Advisory Committee. Mayor Fung recused himself from that portion of the appointment process because an applicant is a family member. Vice Mayor Holiver and Councilmember Riley reported interviewing 16–18 applicants and recommended a slate that included four reappointments and five new appointments with one alternate and one vacancy for a middle‑school member. The council approved the youth advisory committee appointments by a 4-0-1 vote, with Mayor Fung recused.
No public comment was received on the appointments. The city clerk said recruitment for remaining vacancies remains open year‑round and applications are retained for one year.
