The Parks, Recreation & Community Resources staff recommended adding one new special event — MindTravel’s “Life to Headphones” silent piano concert — to the 2025 special events calendar. The proposed dates are Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025 and Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, both on the South of the Pier area.
Event producers said the program uses wireless headphones so attendees hear a live piano performance; the production also includes guided meditation and a question‑and‑answer session. The producer proposed suggested donations for participation but said there would be a pay‑what‑you‑can option as well as a prerecorded listening option for participants who choose not to donate.
Staff noted that because one proposed date falls between Memorial Day and Labor Day and the event would occupy a portion of sandy beach and involve admission by donation, the California Coastal Commission may require a temporary event permit; staff recommended conditioning approval on the producer coordinating with the Coastal Commission as needed.
Action: Council approved adding the event to the 2025 calendar. The vote carried unanimously.
Ending: Staff will work with the event producer on Coastal Commission requirements, ensure lifeguard access lanes remain clear and manage any permit conditions.
