Council votes to cancel July 3 meeting; Miller votes no, cites planning concerns

The Seaside City Council on Jan. 24 approved a staff recommendation to cancel the July 3 regular meeting. The motion passed 3 to 1, with Councilmember Miller voting no.
Miller said he had requested earlier that the council be more methodical about canceling July meetings and expressed concern that canceling one week before the meeting is disrespectful to councilmembers and their planning. He said last year the council had declined to cancel July meetings because important business often lands in that month.
The city manager explained staff recommended the cancellation because June contains multiple budget workshops and the council has already held several meetings; staff judged that regular business could be postponed to the second July meeting without jeopardizing project schedules. The manager also suggested that Miller bring a formal proposal on meeting scheduling if he wanted to revisit the policy.
After discussion, the council approved the resolution canceling the July 3 meeting by roll call (Miller no; Burks yes; Garcia Arizala yes; Mayor Pro Tem Pacheco yes). The motion passed 3-1.
