Veterans group seeks sign for Veterans Memorial Plaza; reports recent internment arranged through Missing in America project

At the start of the June 24 Guadalupe City Council meeting, Deeks Segovia, representing Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 982, asked the council to approve installation of a 4-by-2 sign marking Veterans Memorial Plaza, a name given to a parking-lot area in 2012. Segovia said he had already coordinated with Bill Scott (city staff) and that the proposed sign was approved for size and placement; he asked only for any administrative approval or discretionary funding the city might provide toward the $372 cost.
Segovia said the sign would be placed on the south side of the parking lot, behind the sidewalk and facing the highway near the address the speaker gave. He said the veterans organization would cover the cost if the city chose not to contribute.
Segovia also described the chapter’s involvement with the Missing in America project, which searches mortuaries for unclaimed veteran remains. He said the chapter recently located a veteran in Grover Beach and coordinated internment at Bakersfield National Cemetery.
No formal council action was requested at the meeting; Segovia said he had worked with city staff and expected either an administrative approval or a quick consent-agenda item if council sign-off proved necessary.
