Council waives bid and approves purchase of new Zamboni for Lincoln Park Community Center

Parks staff explained the machine would replace the department's 1997 Olympia resurfacer and that delivery from Zamboni Company USA is expected around July 2026. The council was told Sourcewell pre-negotiated pricing would be used and that a $50,000 deposit will secure the equipment; the remaining balance would be financed. The total price presented was $215,338.51 and the staff presentation said funds were budgeted though a specific account number was not listed on the resolution.
Council members asked about disposal or reuse of the current machine and about availability and pricing for similar machines in the region. Parks staff said older machines are sometimes resold or kept as backups and noted there are limited spare machines in Southeast Michigan. Staff also said the unit would ship from Paramount, California, which avoids tariff-related price increases the council was told could otherwise push the price near $300,000.
A roll-call vote approved waiving the bid and the purchase. Councilors Baer, Nichols, Dupree, Ross, Salcedo, Soar and Mayor Tobin voted yes.
The council authorized the director of parks and recreation to execute the purchase through Sourcewell and to finalize financing and account routing.
