Lincoln Park council approves five-year Stryker EMS equipment replacement program

The Lincoln Park City Council on June 23 adopted a resolution authorizing the Lincoln Park Fire Department to enroll in the Stryker EMS Plus equipment replacement program, a five-year sole-source arrangement intended to maintain and replace critical emergency medical services equipment.

Fire Chief Prince told the council the program covers a new patient-stretcher loading device, a new ambulance stretcher, replacement and an additional Lucas CPR device, an electric stair chair and 15 automated external defibrillators for city buildings and police vehicles. He said Stryker Medical is the sole-source manufacturer for most of the department's current EMS equipment and that the program locks pricing at today's dollars and spreads payment over five years.

Chief Prince provided a five-year total cost not to exceed $231,003.30, with an annual budget impact of $46,200.66. The program includes a one-year manufacturing warranty and a four-year preventive maintenance program covering unlimited repairs, parts, labor, travel and battery replacement. Funding for the five-year program was identified from the capital improvement fund account 410-001-983 per the presentation.

Council members asked clarifying questions and then recorded affirmative roll-call votes. Councilors Zohr, Dupree, Baer, Ross, Salcedo, Nichols and Mayor Tobin voted yes.

The council resolution authorizes the fire department to enroll in the Stryker EMS Plus program and to fund the program from the identified capital account; the department will follow city procurement protocols as directed by the resolution.
