The Town of Danvers Zoning Board of Appeals on June 23 granted relief to homeowners Dominic and Diana Malerba for additions at 2 Sycamore Street, approving a front-setback finding and a side-setback variance.
The applicants sought relief to build a single-story addition that includes a master bedroom, bathroom, closet and an attached garage; the lot is undersized for the district. Planning materials and testimony said the proposed front setback would be 25.6 feet where 30 feet is required, and the requested side setback encroachment would be 11.9 feet where 15 feet is required.
Board members who voted in favor described the project as modest and appropriate for the neighborhood and noted the applicants had consulted neighbors who voiced support. The ZBA issued both the finding and the variance; board members said the proposed addition would not be substantially more detrimental to the neighborhood.
The applicants reported the addition would add roughly 700 square feet of living space and provide storage and livability for their growing family. The board recorded the approvals at the meeting and advised the applicants to follow standard permitting and building-code processes for construction.
