ZBA OKs front farmer’s porch at 91 Aspett Road

The Quincy Zoning Board of Appeals approved a variance on June 24 for a front farmer’s porch at 91 Aspett Road, allowing an approximately 8‑foot projection to create an open porch on an existing single‑family home.
Applicant Brian Travis told the board he and his family have lived at 91 Aspett Road about 12 years and want an 8‑foot open porch, not enclosed, to sit and watch neighborhood activity. Travis said the existing stairs will remain and there will be a roof over the porch but no living space above it. He described the porch as ‘‘wide open’’ and said stairs would be kept in their current location.
Ward 1 Councilor David McCarthy spoke in support, saying small additions that allow families to stay in the neighborhood are positive. No opposition was presented at the hearing and the board voted to grant the variance as requested.
The approval permits construction of the open porch; the applicant will still need to obtain building permits and comply with inspectional services requirements.
