Public commenters ask council for proclamation and highlight animal-shelter volunteer work

Lenoir City — During the public-comment portion of the meeting, several speakers asked the council to consider ceremonial actions and described community volunteer work.
Bob Johnson asked the council to issue a proclamation recognizing a statewide "Sacred Assembly" set for July 14, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the county courthouse, saying volunteers across all 95 counties are coordinating to pray for spiritual and physical healing of the state. "We are humbly requesting and may have counsel to consider issuing a proclamation and recognition and acknowledgment of this, as we call it, Sacred Assembly," Johnson said. The mayor replied the city would prepare a resolution and would contact him when it's ready.
Another longtime local resident and outgoing utility board commissioner spoke to thank council members and to announce that he and his wife are Lenoir City residents. He spoke about his service and gratitude to the community.
Lisa De Questo, representing a local nonprofit partner of the county animal shelter, introduced the organization's volunteer work supporting older dogs, fostering, training enrichment, dog walking and socialization. She said the nonprofit runs a volunteer program to help older dogs find homes and is holding a fundraiser to expand programs.
Speakers thanked the council for its service; the public-comment items resulted in no formal council action beyond staff's offer to draft a proclamation on the Sacred Assembly request.
