Sheriff seeks hardware refresh for 911; board approves hardware now and signs 5-year service agreement payable annually

Koochiching County commissioners approved on June 24 a hardware refresh for the 9-1-1 system for the new dispatch center and agreed to a five-year support agreement that the county will pay annually.

Staff presented two payment options: a one-year service agreement priced with hardware at $192,925.22, or the same hardware with a five-year maintenance/support package priced at $2,663,9195 (transcription shows high-figure formatting; the board agreed to the five-year contract with annual payments). Staff clarified the board need not pay the full five-year sum up-front and will instead sign the five-year agreement and pay the annual maintenance amount (about $18,003.66 annually) from the E911 fund as due.

Staff said the county’s scheduled upgrade was planned for March next year but installing earlier in the new facility (anticipated in October) would create a prorated credit to the county’s existing maintenance agreement. Installation costs (turnkey labor and testing) are part of the package and not included in long-term maintenance pricing. Commissioners reviewed the detailed line items and the multi-year pricing breakdown; staff confirmed the county can sign a five-year agreement and pay the maintenance annually.

The board voted to approve the hardware refresh payment this year (one-year hardware+first-year service) and to sign the five-year service agreement with annual payments thereafter. The motion passed by voice vote.
