County staff report open positions, housing project planning, and DOLA grant presentation for jail work

On projects and meetings, staff recounted participation in a Safe Streets, Roads and Trails steering committee meeting and a Rio Gutierrez Inn housing workshop on June 9. Staff also said they met with vendors and regional partners about budgeting systems and public engagement, and attended planning commission and owner–architect–contractor meetings related to a project at 129 Kansas.
Staff reported that County Administrator Carl Young and Commissioner Wardell were in Grand Junction for a Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) presentation related to the jail, describing the project scope as remodeling, HVAC, kitchen and system updates. The item was characterized as a grant presentation to DOLA for funding jail improvements.
Staff also noted economic-development activity tied to an urban-renewal continuum project, described as the LaVita housing project located near the former football field; the item remains in the planning phase and is being led by the county's economic-development office.
No executive session was requested; the board scheduled an 11:00 a.m. human-services meeting later the same day.
