Chelsea, a resident who identified her address to the board, urged the Huerfano County Board of Commissioners on June 17 to support local housing initiatives and to help secure funds she said remain available to the community.
Chelsea told commissioners she has worked on housing initiatives across 26 Colorado counties and described a local plan developed with community members. She said there remains "close to a $100,000 that is earmarked for accounting" that she is "willing to fight for if you guys are willing to back me up for it," and that she has a fiscal sponsor who could manage funds so the county would not need to add responsibilities to its budget.
Chelsea also said she had advanced past a first phase for a youth grant and expected an interview that could have brought about $15,000 for youth programming before she was let go from her position. She said she is prepared to pursue additional funding and to convene stakeholders, including local nonprofit partners and the balance-of-state continuum, if the commissioners want to continue the initiative.
Chairman Sparleeder thanked Chelsea for her comments. Chelsea said she remains willing to help with small-business assistance and other community economic-development work if the county chooses to involve her. The resident specifically mentioned inviting "Mark from Keep Trinidad Safe" and other local stakeholders to future work sessions if the board requests further discussion.
