Winnebago County supervisors discuss drainage repairs, tile outages and secondary-road maintenance

Supervisors reviewed several secondary-road and drainage issues Tuesday, including standing water in fields, possible tile blockage at the outlet for D D 22 and D D 3 Lat 8, and restoration work at the Sunnyside property.
Staff reported persistent standing water in the north part of town and noted that recently replaced field tile appeared to be holding but that tree-root infiltration and other obstructions may still impede drainage. Dan Swearingen and others told supervisors there is still water standing in fields adjacent to the system; county staff recommended further field investigation and possible removal of trees that have compromised tile lines.
The board directed staff to prepare a petition to investigate DD 3 Lat 8 and D D 22 Main as well as to consult with contractor Derek Yaggy (who has carried out repairs at private properties) about whether further replacement or tree removal is required. Staff said they would coordinate with state property managers where the tile outlets appear to be on state-owned land.
On road operations, the county reported that a milling project (R 20) started the day before and that crews were progressing on planned routes. Sunnyside restoration work is underway with dozers on site; staff said the restored parcels will be prepared for sale or farming. County staff also said they were collecting bids for a salt-shaker building and other shop improvements and awaiting supplier quotes.
